Better footpaths, landscaping and signage, innovative youth programs and new opportunities for First Nations people are among a raft of new revitalisation projects for Reservoir backed by the Victorian Government.
Minister for Suburban Development Shaun Leane today announced $1.2 million for six projects through the Suburban Revitalisation Program. The projects were identified as priorities by the local community through the Reservoir Suburban Revitalisation Board.
The projects being funded in Reservoir include a suite of streetscape and footpath improvements on High and Spring streets and Broadway as well as a program of events and activities to celebrate diversity in the suburb – and engagement programs to address anti-social behaviour and increase community safety.
Local business operators will benefit from funding to facilitate youth entrepreneurial and leadership opportunities for members of the First Nations, multicultural and LGBTIQA+ communities.
Funding will also go towards the development of a brand for Reservoir with new wayfinding signage, flags and banners located close to the new train station, and an economic analysis of the suburb to help guide future development strategies.
Previous spend in Reservoir through the Suburban Revitalisation Program includes $150,000 for local businesses to upgrade their shopfronts, $110,000 to deliver on-road bike lanes along Edwardes Street and Broadway and $80,000 for streetscape upgrades and laneway activations.
The Government’s revitalisation projects focus on boosting social and economic outcomes in high population centres as businesses and communities recover from the impacts of coronavirus.
Almost $25 million has been invested on more than 115 Suburban Revitalisation projects across metropolitan Melbourne – providing locally-inspired responses to local opportunities and challenges.
