Major works on the $177 million Bayswater level crossing removal works are now complete. The construction team will now undertake work to create the new Mountain Highway Streetscape, commissioned and funded by Knox Council in addition to the Level Crossing Removal Project.

The new 350-space car park is now complete, bike hoops have been installed and the bus interchange, shared user path, station stairs and lifts are finished and open to the community.

Public artwork has also been installed to enhance the newly created Mountain Highway underpass to Bayswater Station.

The theme of the mural is ‘Connecting to place, connecting people’, and was designed by Graffix Creative, local Aboriginal artists and students from Bayswater Secondary College.

Work on landscaping and the station surrounds will be finished by the end of May – with plants being provided by social enterprise, Knoxbrooke – and a secure Parkiteer cage open in the coming months.

The new Bayswater Station was built as part of a $177 million Labor Government project that removed Bayswater’s two dangerous and congested level crossings – on Mountain Highway and Scoresby Road – forever.

These level crossings were among Victoria’s worst. Both boom gates were down for around a quarter of the morning peak, causing frustration, disruption and delay for thousands of motorists.

They were also dangerous, with two accidents and countless near misses in the past decade alone.
