WANTIRNA PEDESTRIAN CROSSING SET FOR SAFETY UPGRADE

The Andrews Labor Government’s vital safety upgrade of the pedestrian crossing at Mountain Highway and Boronia Road intersection has begun.

Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan and Member for Eastern Metropolitan Victoria Shaun Leane announced the start of construction on the $280,000 project today, which will make the busy intersection safer for both drivers and pedestrians.

The pedestrian crossing on the northern Boronia Road slip lane entering Mountain Highway will be replaced with traffic lights that will be activated by pedestrians.

When the traffic lights are activated, an electronic warning sign on Boronia Road will give drivers advanced warning of the pedestrian crossing ahead.

The Boronia Road slip lane will also be realigned to slow vehicles down and give drivers better visibility of pedestrians.

Road users should take extra care travelling through the intersection, with reduced speed limits and road workers on site.

The safety upgrades are set to be completed by late 2017.
